Collage of facility involvement. As a non-profit organization, the Hearthstone is fully engaged with supporting the Green Lake and Seattle community at large with exciting projects and events. Philanthropy is an integral part of the mission as we reach out to our neighbors. Here are some examples of how the Hearthstone is involved in the local community:

  • Alzheimer’s Café – In partnership with Peet’s Coffee Shop at Green Lake, Alzheimer’s café offers a monthly social gathering for those with memory loss and their care givers to come together for a safe, fun and non-judgmental event. We are making Green Lake a dementia friendly neighborhood.
  • Aurora Commons – Weekly donation from our dining room is delivered to Aurora Commons to be served to the homeless.
  • Weekly Neighborhood Coffee Klatch – a weekly gathering place for the 50+ age group to meet their neighbors, and enjoy the fellowship of other Green Lake retirees.
  • The Bridge – The Bridge space is available at no charge for scheduled use by qualified local senior groups and the non-profit organizations that serve them.
  • Knotty Knitters – This is a group of Hearthstone residents that has provided over 50,000 hand knit baby hats to Northwest Hospital. Having been an integral part of the Hearthstone for over 30 years, this group of women continues to offer this precious gift to new born babies and their mothers.
  • Grand Pals – Local elementary children come to the Hearthstone weekly for visitation and reading opportunities.
  • Reaching the Green Lake Neighborhood:
    • Green Lake Chamber of Commerce
    • Friends of Green Lake – Offering volunteer shoreline care and restoration of Green Lake.
    • Green Lake Community Council – Fostering a greater sense of community among all who live, work and play in the Green Lake neighborhood.
    • Goodwill – Facilitating year round donations by residents
    • Lions Recycle for Sight and Hearing – collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids to be redistributed internationally to those of need.
    • Northwest Harvest – Year-round donation project by residents of non-perishable food items to support local food banks in the Seattle area.
    • Student Recitals – Local music teachers and students utilize the Hearthstone common areas for recitals.
