Volunteer opportunities at The Hearthstone.

Maya Angelou once said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This is what volunteering is all about at The Hearthstone. The rewards of your time and effort are multiplied when you give of yourself. There are many opportunities at The Hearthstone to support community projects, groups and activities, or share a special talent.

Ways you can help:

Become a friendly visitor – People with limited mobility who are unable to get out are grateful to have a regular friend. They’ll happily share your interests in conversation, collecting, reading, music, poetry, games, etc. Requirements: Be regular and reliable, friendly, helpful, positive and outgoing. Time commitment is one day each week for 1-2 hours. Average term is 1-2 years.

Be music to our ears – Musical talent on the piano and/or organ would greatly enhance our Thursday night entertainment or Sunday night Vespers service. We have a lovely Steinway Grand, reserved parking and an appreciative audience. The only requirement is an ability and desire to play secular music (particularly classical to 1950s) or sacred music.

Bring people and plants together – Help us grow! If you have a green thumb, residents often have plants indoors and on small balconies that need your help. We have the plants, pots, soil, etc., but we’re looking for someone to share gardening expertise. Meet with a small group (6-10 people) once a month to help repot plants and answer questions such as: What is the name of this plant? What is the best care for it? When is the best time to put it outdoors? Knowledge and love of plants along with a passion for serving seniors preferred.
